director of percussion application

The ideal candidate for Director of Percussion will demonstrate a strong pedagogical foundation and history of success with a varied student base, at multiple skill and understanding levels. Candidate should have an established history of leading a percussion program (in Marching/Concert/Indoor) at competitive high schools, and should possess both teaching and performing skills in battery, mallets, and other percussive areas. Candidates will also show an exceptional ability to lead a staff of percussion technicians and work in a collaborative and creative environment. Note this is a Booster Funded Position

NGHS Band & Percussion

The North Gwinnett High School Band Program (Serving Suwanee and Sugar Hill, GA) is a thriving and active program and has quickly risen to be one of the premiere programs throughout the Southeast. North Gwinnett has 4 concert ensembles, marching band, indoor percussion, 3 winter guard ensembles, chamber groups, and more. In percussion, NGHS recently medaled in their class (PSO) at GIPA Championships, and the Bulldog Marching Band recently has received multiple first in class and a Grand Champion trophy in the 2023-24 season. North Gwinnett also features a percussion class during the school day. The North Gwinnett Band Program, and especially the Percussion division, is seeking a culture builder who will establish a rapport with the students, staff, and community to build the program into its next phase and beyond. The North Gwinnett cluster also has an incredible feeder program, especially for percussion, with the middle school being invited to PASIC as the junior high winner of the International Percussion Ensemble Competition in 2023, as well as being invited to perform at the 2024 Midwest Clinic in Chicago.

TIME RESPONSIBILITIES

Marching Band

  • Band Camp July 8th-19th

  • Practices: Mondays & Wednesdays (Full Band), Tuesday (Perc Only)

  • Football Games

  • Competitions & other Marching Band related events

Class

  • 3 Days Per Week for 3 Class Periods (can be same or different than Marching Band Days)

Indoor Drumline

  • Schedule can be determined by Director
